690 Quality Improvement Project: Improving Engagement with Smoking Cessation Services Among Emergency Surgical Admissions

Abstract Aim Smoking status has a significant impact on surgical patient outcomes, with significantly increased rates of intra- and post-operative complications. Within Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT), the CURE team is dedicated smoking cessation service that uses an electronic proforma to identify smokers offer support. We assessed efforts among emergency admissions pre- post-teaching intervention. Method Two rounds audit were completed: baseline from 01/01/21 31/01/21(n = 202); reaudit 01/11/22 30/11/22 (n 163), following structured teaching session cessation, delivered incoming doctors in August 2022. documentation within notes, completion proforma, prescription nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), assessment/follow up CURE. Results Following intervention, improved 83% 166) 96% 157), 55% 112) 91% 148). Among documented (cycle 1 n 49; cycle 2 47), NRT 29% 40%, involvement 31% 64%. Overall, 21% accepted ongoing support during post-admission, compared 10% at baseline. Conclusions Use inpatient high engagement inpatients.
